Transplanting strawberries in spring to another place. Features of transplanting "Victoria" in the spring How and when to plant Victoria

It is perhaps difficult to find a person today who has no idea what strawberries are. After all, this is not only a very tasty, but also a very healthy berry. However, not everyone knows that we call strawberry the large variety of garden strawberry Fragaria ananassa and its numerous subspecies, for example, the musky strawberry variety Fragaria moschata. One of the first varieties of garden strawberries (strawberries) to be cultivated in Russia was Victoria. It is also popularly called “Victorka”. Next, we will tell you in more detail about the characteristics of this culture and how , when to plant Victoria in spring or autumn.

Victoria garden: description and characteristics

Strawberry (Victoria strawberry) is a herbaceous perennial plant that is grown almost all over the world today. Its fruits are sweet, juicy, red with white flesh. In general, the name of the berry, “strawberry,” comes from the phrase “fragaria vesca” of Latin origin. It literally translates as “fragrant.” Wild strawberries, which are called the sister of garden strawberries, have almost the same amount of nutrients and vitamins, but their aroma is less restrained.

Victoria garden strawberry belongs to the Rosaceae family. It grows in forest-steppes, meadows, forests, forest edges, clearings and forest clearings. Today, this crop can be found in wild or cultivated form. The first group includes wild strawberries, green strawberries and the field group of varieties. Cultivated species include Garden Victoria, musk and muscat strawberries. The plains and hills of the Alps are considered the birthplace of this plant. Today it can be found in Western and Eastern Siberia, in the forest and forest-steppe zones of our country, Ukraine, the Caucasus and Central Asia.

Main characteristics and description of the Victoria variety:

  • Victoria is a hybrid variety developed by crossing Virginia and Chilean strawberries.
  • The rhizome of the crop is strong with many branches.
  • Victoria makes an excellent dessert, but its use is not limited to just that. After all, it has proven itself to be excellent for medicinal and cosmetic purposes. The berry contains many different vitamins. It is especially rich in vitamin C and B5. In addition, there is iron, potassium, magnesium, calcium, manganese, zinc, silicon, phosphorus, copper and folic acid.
  • The culture of this variety has large green leaves located on small petioles (length 18-25 cm).

  • Victoria has several types of shoots - horns, mustaches and peduncles. The first of them are represented by a short arrow, at the top of which there is a bud. Shoots of the second type spread along the ground. They are used by summer residents as shoots intended for propagation (division) of the crop. The third type of shoots (peduncles) are presented in the form of arrows emerging from the generative buds.
  • The inflorescence contains 5 petals. Victoria blooms with white flowers. Then the flower stalks grow, forming fruit ears. Tasty and juicy red berries then grow from them.
  • Victoria can be grown in the same area for no more than 5 years in a row, then the crop should be replanted.

Planting Victoria in autumn

You can plant Victoria in autumn or early spring. In the first case, the crop will take root well and take root during the winter, and at the beginning of summer it will be possible to harvest.

Planting Victoria in the fall is done in the following order:

  1. Initially, you should prepare the soil. It is best if the site has slightly acidic light loamy or sandy loam soil. In addition, the soil must be well-drained, since Victoria does not like stagnant moisture. It is not recommended to plant the crop where groundwater flows nearby, which can cause excessive soil moisture.
  2. Next, the soil on the site is enriched with mineral and potassium fertilizers.
  3. Victoria is planted in several rows. There should be a distance of at least 25 cm between the seedlings. The row spacing is usually 75-85 cm. The seedling is deepened into the ground by 20 cm. Then it is sprinkled with earth.
  4. After the seedling is planted, the soil on the site should be compacted and, on the contrary, loosened between the rows. Then the seedlings are watered.
  5. For the winter, seedlings should be insulated. Manure or straw is used for this.

If planting is carried out in the spring, then the site should be prepared in advance in October. To do this, dig up the soil, removing weed rhizomes from it. Next, the process is the same as planting Victoria in the fall.

How to care for Victoria garden in autumn

Caring for Victoria in the fall consists of the following activities:

  1. You should periodically loosen the soil between the rows of seedlings.
  2. You cannot plant a crop in one area for longer than 4-5 years. After this period, Victoria should be transplanted. If you are wondering when to replant Victoria in spring or autumn, then the best period for this would be September.
  3. Victoria should be watered moderately, avoiding stagnation of moisture. You can use artificial sprinkling technology for irrigation.
  4. How to treat Victoria in the fall? Organic fertilizers - ash, humus, bird droppings - are perfect for feeding during this period.

Useful properties of Victoria garden

Victoria has many beneficial properties:

  • Has a positive effect on digestion. It improves appetite and also has a diuretic and diaphoretic effect. Due to the fact that the berries contain a considerable amount of minerals, the body is cleansed of toxins and “heavy” elements.
  • Victoria is rich in antioxidants, which slows down the aging process. It is also actively used in alternative medicine, for example, in the treatment of anemia, atherosclerosis, and hypertension. The benefit of Victoria in the treatment of hypertension is that the berry contains a lot of potassium. Magnesium, which is contained in Victoria, is an excellent remedy for lowering blood pressure, which is often caused by excess salt.
  • Victoria will be useful for vitamin deficiencies. Thanks to the properties of the berry, by eating it, you can cope with the influenza virus and pneumococcus. It has a positive effect on the metabolic processes of such an important substance for the body as iodine.
  • The fruits are often used as part of the diet menu for those overweight.

  • It is also worth noting that the fruits contain beneficial acids that help neutralize the negative effects that occur in the body when smoking tobacco. Therefore, the berry is especially useful for people who smoke.
  • Victoria contains useful flavonoids - folates, anthocyanins, vitamin C, quercetin and kaempferol. These substances together are very effective in fighting tumors. If you eat this berry every day, it will be an excellent prevention of cancer and will also help reduce the growth of cancer cells.
  • The leaves and berries of this crop are used to prepare infusions for the treatment of certain diseases, for example, eye pathologies. This is achieved due to the fact that Victoria contains antioxidants that help fight free radicals, which are one of the main causes of most ENT diseases.
  • Culture is good for brain function. This is facilitated by the same ability of Victoria to resist free radicals. After all, it is when they are activated that the brain begins to gradually degenerate, which will entail a weakening of the nerve endings.
  • The berries contain iodine, which allows the nervous system and brain to function properly. The iodine content makes it possible to compensate for the deficiency of this microelement in everyday food. In addition, the fruits contain salicylic acid, which is useful for various joint diseases.

Reproduction of garden Victoria in autumn

Reproduction of Victoria depends on its variety. Basically, most species, after the end of fruiting, throw out their whiskers, which are used for their reproduction. Beardless varieties of strawberries reproduce by dividing the bush or sowing seed material.

Propagation by mustache is the most commonly used when growing crops and gives quite good results. The breeding order is as follows:

  1. Once the bush finishes bearing fruit, it produces tendrils, at the end of which rosettes with leaves are formed. They are leaned against the ground and sprinkled with loose soil so that it does not fall into the core of the rosette.
  2. After this, it is watered and left for a while until it takes root. When the rosette takes root, it is cut off from the bush, carefully dug up and transplanted to a new place. In some cases, they are transplanted not into an open place, but into a so-called growing bed.
  3. It must be covered with agrofibre or lutrasil to protect fragile seedlings from direct sunlight. When transplanting, no more than 3-4 sheets are left on the rosettes, all the rest are simply cut off. The seedlings are transplanted into the “working” bed only at the end of September, but the sun canopy can be removed after 2-3 weeks.

Quite often, novice gardeners prefer to buy ready-made seedlings. It is better to do this from trusted breeders, otherwise such a step is comparable to buying a “pig in a poke.” If the decision to purchase seedlings has been made, you need to pay attention to its quality. A normal seedling should be well developed, have at least 4 leaves and long roots (at least 4 cm). The horn of a good bush should be powerful.

Growing Victoria from seeds is rarely used by gardeners. This breeding method is mainly used by green farms and agricultural firms. Seeds are propagated by those varieties that do not grow whiskers.

Reproduction order using this method:

  1. Planting is done at home in a container with compost. Plant seeds are lightly pressed into damp compost and then covered with glass.
  2. For 3 days after sowing, the container should be placed in the refrigerator in the lower compartment, and then removed and moved to a warm place with a temperature of approximately +20°C.
  3. The first strawberry shoots should appear in about a month. As soon as this happens, you can remove the glass and move the container with seedlings to a more illuminated place.
  4. Seedlings are picked when 3-4 leaves appear on them. After this, they are moved to peat pots and left to grow until they can be planted in open ground. To do this, it must be sufficiently warmed up. It is worth transplanting seedlings into the garden bed only when the probability of frost is too low.

Also, beardless varieties of Victoria are propagated by dividing the bush. To do this, after the fruiting period, you need to select the most powerful bush, carefully dig it out without damaging the root system, and shake off the soil. After this, the bush is divided in such a way that on each part there remains a horn, long and developed white roots, as well as 3-4 leaves. Then the old roots are cut off from both parts and they can be planted in open ground. Thus, from one Victoria bush you get 2 or even 3 full-fledged plants.

Pruning garden Victoria in autumn

Although many believe that Victoria should not be pruned, citing the fact that the leaves give additional energy to the bush. However, this is not the case. A large number of leaves and tendrils with rosettes, on the contrary, will take a lot of juice from the plant, so there is no need to start the bushes. It is also impossible to leave a bush without leaves for the winter. That is why Victoria needs to be pruned in time so that the bushes have time to grow new foliage by the first frost. This will take the plant up to two months, so it is better to start pruning in mid-August.

Young growth does not need to be pruned. For bushes 1-2 years old, this procedure will cause more trouble than benefit.

After the pruning procedure is completed, Victoria bushes are treated with insecticides and fungicides. They also carry out several heavy waterings, weeding the beds and removing weeds.

Diseases and pests of Victoria garden

Like most fruit plants, Victoria strawberries are susceptible to various diseases and pests. Among the first, the most common are:

  • Late blight. A Victoria bush affected by late blight can be recognized by the wilting of the leaves. The disease itself affects the root system of the plant. To prevent the disease, it is necessary to observe crop rotation and check seedlings before planting. If signs of the disease are detected, it is necessary to treat the plants with Trichoderma using a drip irrigation system, and treat the soil with Quadris or Radomil.
  • Gray rot. This disease is widespread almost everywhere. First of all, the fungus, which is its root cause, affects berries and flowers. The cause of the disease is high humidity in the area and poor ventilation. Prevention of the disease consists of normalizing the watering regime and treating the area with the following drugs: Derozal, Euparen, Topsin M. Diseased plants must be removed from the area and burned.
  • Powdery mildew. This disease develops on the lower plastic of the leaf and affects the flowers, leaves, tendrils and berries of the plant. It is determined by the presence of loose plaque on the infected areas of the plant. Then the spots develop into necrosis, and the plant gradually dies. If there are signs of disease, it is necessary to treat the bed with Fundazol or Bayleton.

Victoria also has a lot of pests:

  • Weevil (strawberry-raspberry and nettle-leaf). These bugs are a real scourge for Victoria's beds. Actively reproducing, after wintering they begin to eat the leaves and flowers of the plant. So in advanced cases, you can be left without a harvest at all. Disease prevention is carried out by treating the beds with Karbofos, Confidor or Decis. They do this twice: before flowering and after picking the berries.
  • Strawberry mite. The pest damages the leaves of the plant. Its actions lead to the degradation of the berries and the death of the entire bush. Ticks are especially active at the end of summer. Diseased plants are sprayed with a solution of colloidal sulfur in early spring, and a week before flowering with Nero.

How to plant Victoria: video

Victoria is one of the most popular varieties of garden strawberries. To grow it, the gardener will not need any additional knowledge or greater effort than usual. You can plant this variety of strawberries in your summer cottage both in spring and autumn. We will talk about the second method today in more detail.

This variety is remontant, so planting Victoria can be postponed until late autumn, although deadlines should still be avoided (the plant must take root properly before the onset of frost). Victoria planted too late can either die completely in winter or freeze very much and produce a very modest harvest in the first season.

To plant these strawberries, choose a flat, well-lit area, reliably protected from cold winds and drafts (a strong wind will blow away the snow, which serves as a natural protection for the plants). At the same time, Victoria should not be planted in lowlands, in this case the harvest will be very poor, and the strawberry bushes will often get sick. In addition, high humidity most often forms in the lowlands, which has a detrimental effect on the winter hardiness of these plants.

When choosing a planting site for Victoria, it is extremely important to pay special attention to proper crop rotation. To ensure that the harvest is always plentiful, the plant should be replanted every 4 years. The best predecessors for both planting and transplanting are garlic, dill, rye, oats, carrots, onions, beets and various legumes. Bad predecessors: strawberries, strawberries, tomatoes, potatoes, cabbage and various nightshades.

Before planting, Victoria should take care of preparing the soil. A month before the event, humus should be added to it in an amount of 3 kg per 1 m2 and carefully dug to a depth of 10 cm. After this, furrows should be made in the treated area and watered thoroughly.

When planting Victoria, you should adhere to certain rules. The distance between neighboring bushes in the same row should be at least 25 cm, and neighboring ridges should be at least 60 cm apart from each other. If the roots of strawberries prepared for planting are longer than 7 cm, carefully trim them. The roots should go down into the ground and be buried vertically. This will provide them with better growth in the future, and accordingly the plant will receive more nutrients and develop faster. The apical bud should be strictly located at ground level. After planting, the soil in the bush area should be compacted, watered and mulched with a 5 cm layer of sawdust.

Caring for Victoria is quite ordinary. As necessary, the soil must be watered, loosened and weeded to remove weeds. When planting in autumn, you should immediately take care of organizing shelter for the winter. There is no need to cover this variety of strawberry during the first short autumn frosts; let the plant get used to them and harden. But as soon as the temperature drops below -5 C, Victoria needs to be covered. To do this, you can sprinkle a 15 cm layer of fallen leaves on top of the plantings. In early spring, this layer must be removed so that with the arrival of warmth, the plants under it do not dry out and die.

Once again, let us make a reservation that strawberries, Victoria among gardeners, are called large-fruited strawberries. In our articles, we write the name of the plant as our readers call it.

Proper planting of Victoria is the key to a good harvest and successful wintering. For this berry, like no other, the yield directly depends on proper planting and care.

The best time to plant Victoria is from August to September. The seedlings planted at this time have time to take root well and grow leaves. Such plants overwinter well and bloom in the spring. When planted in spring, Victoria flowering will be less abundant and the harvest of berries will be lower. Spring planting can begin as early as the third decade of April. Of course, when choosing a planting date, you need to focus on weather conditions. The soil should dry out a little, the air temperature should be at least 10 0 C, the work of planting and replanting Victoria must be completed before the onset of hot days.

Choosing a place to plant strawberries

When choosing a landing site, you need to consider the following factors:

  • Victoria is photophilous, she needs a sunny location; shadows from buildings and trees should not fall on the site,
  • the bed for planting Victoria must be level, in no case in the lowlands,
  • the place must be protected from the winds so that in winter the snow is not blown out of the beds, otherwise the plants will not overwinter well.

Preparing soil for strawberries

Large-fruited strawberry(Victoria) is very demanding on soil fertility, it requires a large amount of nutrients to form a harvest, so you need to take very seriously the preparation of the soil for planting and further fertilizing of Victoria (especially remontant)

To plant Victoria, fertile, slightly acidic soil is required. In soil that is too acidic, deoxidizing agents (lime, dolomite flour, etc.) must be added in advance.

The root system of Victoria is demanding of oxygen nutrition, so the soil must be loose and breathable. This is why Victoria responds well to regular loosening of the soil around the bushes.

If your soil is too heavy, you can add compost or rotted sawdust directly into each planting hole, if perlite is available.

Victoria's roots are very sensitive to root hair rupture, so soil cultivation (ploughing, digging) should be carried out at least two to three weeks before planting so that the soil has time to compact.

Planting Victoria (strawberry)

Correct fit is of great importance. The root collar should be at soil level. If planted deeper, with rain and watering the growing point (the heart) may rot, such a plant, as a rule, dies in winter; if shallower, the roots will be exposed.

To make it more convenient to care for Victoria in the future, it needs to be planted in even rows. The maximum distance between them should be 60 - 70 cm, and between plants - 30 cm. It is best to plant Victoria in the evening or in cloudy weather. Victoria is planted in the ground either with a closed root system (from cups) - such seedlings take root, as a rule, 100%, or with an open root system.

If you are planting seedlings with an open root system, then you need to trim the roots to 8–10 cm. Remove some of the leaves, leaving 2–3 of the youngest leaves, otherwise the seedlings may dry out. When planting, be sure to straighten the roots of the plant; under no circumstances should they bend. When planting, you need to add any complex mineral or organomineral fertilizer to the hole (according to the instructions for the fertilizer), the soil in the hole needs to be mixed and Victoria seedlings can be planted. Water the seedlings if it is possible to cover them with Spunbond or Lutrasil; this is especially important for seedlings with an open root system; the covering material allows you to maintain optimal temperature and humidity for rooting of seedlings.

Strawberries, care and cultivation

Further care of planted seedlings comes down to watering as needed, feeding plants with fertilizers 10 - 14 days after planting, loosening, and weed control.

Planting Victoria in the spring video

Garden strawberries are a plant that is called strawberry, and sometimes Victoria, because this variety is the most revered among others due to its excellent taste and quality. If you do not know how to grow Victoria, choose a strawberry variety based on the climate of your region. Victoria propagates by rooted bushes that form on the stems of shoots. From this article you will learn how to grow Victoria in the garden, as well as how to plant Victoria in the spring.

How to grow Victoria in the garden?

In order to grow Victoria you will need:

  • rotted compost; heteroauxin; mulching material.

The time to grow Victoria must be chosen taking into account the climate of the area where you will plant it. If your region has little snow and frosty winters, then it is better to plant Victoria in the spring. Then the plants will be able to get stronger over the summer.

If your area has a milder climate, then you can postpone planting Victoria until the fall. If you want to get a harvest in the first year, then you can plant young plants in the ground in July or August. In order for the plant to develop quickly and produce a good quality harvest, you need to grow Victoria in a well-lit area in a place where the soil is light and not swampy.

Potatoes, peppers or tomatoes must grow on this soil for several years. If you want to plant Victoria in the spring, then the soil needs to be prepared in the fall.

And when planting strawberries in summer or autumn, it is enough to prepare the soil one or two weeks before planting. You need to dig up a plot of land, removing the roots of perennial weeds, beetle larvae and wireworms. Otherwise, they will damage the roots of garden strawberries and it is better to get rid of this problem in advance.

Next, you need to improve the soil structure, add a few kilograms of fertilizer and add sand to the soil. Victoria should be planted in the spring in humid, cloudy weather. The prepared bed should be watered quite generously a couple of days before planting. When planting Victoria in the spring, you must separate the rooted rosettes from the shoots.

It is important to dip the exposed roots of the rosettes in a mixture of heteroauxin, water and clay. Strawberries should be planted in rows, at a distance of about 60 cm from each other. You also need to leave a gap of up to 30 cm between the bushes.

Before planting Victoria, you need to straighten the roots of the plant and sprinkle them with soil so that the growth point does not end up below the soil level. After these steps, be sure to water the bed and sprinkle the soil with a layer of sawdust. If you have non-woven mulching material, you can spread it on the bed before planting, and then secure the edges. Where the Victoria is located under the mulching material, you need to cut holes.

How to plant Victoria in spring?

If you want to get a rich harvest of garden strawberries or Victoria several times a season, then you need to grow a remontant variety of Victoria. In this species, fruits are formed in just two to three weeks.

At the same time, the first harvest can be obtained from last year’s inflorescences, and the second, most abundant, in August-September. Victoria is a fairly heat-loving plant. A sharp drop in temperature in autumn can cause the entire above-ground part of the plant to freeze, especially in the absence of snow cover.

And severe freezing of the soil can even cause the death of the roots. There is nothing complicated about how to plant Victoria correctly. To grow Victoria, you can choose almost any soil in your garden plot. However, there is, of course, a connection between yield and soil type.

The best results can be achieved if Victoria is grown on podzolized chernozem soils or on dark gray soils of medium and light composition.

On peat, light gray and soddy-podzolic soils, the harvest will be much less rich.

Groundwater should lie at a depth of at least 60-70 cm.

Slopes facing the southwest are best suited for planting Victoria, since the growing season begins earlier on them and the berry crop ripens faster.

The acidity of the soil should be almost neutral.

The eternal enemy of not only potatoes, but also Victoria is the Colorado potato beetle. Therefore, before planting Victoria in the ground, it should be checked for the presence of wireworms and May beetle larvae.

How to plant Victoria correctly?

Proper care of Victoria - a rich harvest

Correct caring for victoria will allow you to get a rich harvest, from planting and watering to harvesting. It is no secret that Victoria has many beneficial properties, not to mention its excellent taste.

A rich harvest is the result of proper care of Victoria. Garden strawberries, which are usually called “Victoria,” are a very tasty and aromatic berry. In fact, Victoria is just a variety of strawberry. Caring for strawberries and Victoria has some features and differences.

Victoria landing

Victoria needs to be planted on a flat area with a slight slope to the west. It is necessary that the planting area be well protected from the wind, which in winter, blowing snow off the plants, can cause them to die from frost. Victoria grows best on sandy loam soils , containing a large amount of humus. Victoria reproduces by mustaches that grow by mid-summer. From the nodes located on the tendrils, new shoots grow - rosettes of leaves and roots.

The first 2 - 3 rosettes from the main plant are considered the most suitable for propagation. The most suitable are the mustaches from two-year-old bushes. When a rosette has 4-6 leaves, it should be cut off from the tendril and, together with a lump of earth, planted in a prepared hole in a permanent place. Victoria is usually planted in spring or autumn, with preliminary soil preparation.

If spring planting is planned, then the soil should be prepared in the fall; if it is autumn, then the site is prepared in June. 6 kg of humus and mineral fertilizers are added to the dug up soil per square meter: potassium salt and ammonium nitrate, 20 grams each, plus 25 grams of superphosphate. In order to make it convenient to care for the plants, they are planted in rows like ridges, up to 10 cm high. 20 - 30 cm should be left between the bushes, with a row spacing of 60 - 70 cm.

Victoria care and watering

Victoria is very picky about care and watering. If you regularly carry out work to conserve moisture by loosening the soil, mulching, snow retention, and removing weeds, you can do without watering.

But when watering it up to 10 times per season, it is possible to obtain a more generous harvest. After flowering has ended, the soil in the garden bed is mulched with wood shavings, straw or dry moss. This protects the berries from damp rot. In mid-autumn, you need to do a second mulching with peat or grain waste.

The mulch thickness should be 5 - 8 cm. After harvesting, the soil around the bushes should be loosened. When the roots are exposed, the plant must be earthed up.

Weeding also plays an important role in obtaining a good strawberry harvest. Good and timely caring for victoria will delight you with the resulting harvest of berries, which are indispensable in the treatment of kidney and liver diseases, and diabetes. Victoria berries promote blood formation, increase productivity, strengthen the immune system. Read also about remontant varieties of Victoria, as we often call it, or simply strawberries.

How to care for Victoria?

Victoria is one of the famous varieties of garden strawberries. Due to the wide distribution of this variety, the name is firmly attached in everyday life to garden strawberries in general. In order for the harvest of this berry to please you with quantity and quality, you need to know how to care for Victoria correctly.

How to properly care for Victoria

Watering Victoria

Victoria is very demanding when it comes to care and watering. If it is not always possible to water it, then it is necessary to carry out work to preserve moisture in the soil. Loosening the soil, covering the ground with snow, timely removal of weeds, and mulching can help you with this.

As a rule, watering strawberries 9 - 10 times per season allows you to get a rich harvest. For watering, you can use a garden watering can without a nozzle and carefully water directly under the root of the plant.

How to care for Victoria in the fall

After the flowering season, the soil must be mulched with dry moss, straw or wood shavings. This simple procedure will protect the berries from infection with gray rot.

Closer to mid-autumn, it is necessary to re-mulch using grain production waste or peat. The thickness of the mulch layer should be about 5 - 8 cm. When mulching, remember that Victoria leaves should not be covered.

After harvesting, it is necessary to loosen the compacted soil around the plants. If the roots of the plant are exposed, it must be earthed up. To maintain good yield, Victoria beds must be weeded regularly.

When weeding, you can use mini-hoes and garden rippers.

In order to ensure flowering of the bushes and active berry set, Victoria bushes can be treated with boric acid in the spring. And before flowering and during the ovary period, it is useful to treat Victoria with zinc sulfate. Also in the spring, after harvesting the leaves, you can fertilize the soil.

Victoria landing

Propagation of Victoria strawberries occurs with the help of mustaches that grow on the plant by mid-summer. On these tendrils there are nodes from which leaves and roots actually grow.

Two or three rosettes located near the mother plant are considered to be of the highest quality for propagation. It is better to take tendrils from plants of the 2nd year.

After 4-6 leaves appear on the rosette, it needs to be separated from the mother plant and transplanted to a prepared place. In order not to damage the roots, the rosettes must be dug out together with a lump of earth and planted in prepared and spilled holes. Victoria is planted in spring or autumn.

For more comfortable planting in spring, the soil must be prepared in the fall (dig up, harrow). If you decide to plant Victoria in the fall, then you can prepare the site in June. Also, when preparing the site, it will not be a bad idea to apply fertilizer. For good growth and development of Victoria, it is necessary to apply per 1 m2:

  • 20 g ammonium nitrate 25 g superphosphate 6 kg humus

To ensure comfortable access to plants when watering or weeding, it is better to plant Victoria in even rows of small ridges of earth 7 - 10 cm high. The distance between the rows should be about 60 - 70 cm, and between two planted plants - 20 - 30 cm. For more detailed information For ideas about planting Victoria, you can watch a video for beginner gardeners.

Selecting a site for planting

It is best to plant garden strawberries on a flat area that has a slight slope to the west. This feature of the surface of the site will allow the strawberry leaves to receive more sunlight in the afternoon.

It is also advisable that the site be protected from the wind. Victoria feels most comfortable on sandy loam soils with a high humus content.

Victoria – a delicious victory with little secrets

Greetings, dear readers! One of the first varieties of well-known garden strawberries is the Victoria berry. Victoria fruits have an extraordinary aroma and look beautiful and appetizing on a plate.

Victoria is a berry that has many valuable properties and contains nutrients. It contains vitamin C. The name Victoria is very suitable for this berry. To feel Victoria - victory - you need to see a well-groomed bed of beautiful berries.

And for this you need to properly care for the plant. Let's talk about that in the garden plot. Victoria reproduces with a mustache. They usually appear by mid-summer. For further cultivation, plants use rosettes located next to the mother bush.

Whiskers from two-year-old plants work best. You need to plant a rosette with four leaves on the ridge, separating it from the general plant. Victoria bushes are planted in spring or autumn. But at the same time, the area for planting is prepared in advance.

For spring planting, the beds are prepared in the fall, and for autumn planting - in June, not forgetting to fertilize the soil. It is advisable to plant Victoria on level ground with a slope in a westerly direction.

In winter, snow should accumulate on the site so that the Victoria bushes do not die. In this regard, the bed must be positioned so that it is not strongly blown by the wind. In order to plant bushes, it is necessary to make holes in the prepared bed into which the mustaches, dug out along with a lump of soil, are placed.

This must be done immediately, without leaving the rosette for the next days. The Victoria berry is susceptible to infection with gray rot. To prevent this disease, the soil on the ridge is mulched with wood shavings or straws, 10 cm thick. The leaves of the plant are not covered.

When the harvest is harvested, the soil around the berry bushes must be loosened. When the roots are exposed, the berries are hilled up; regular weeding of Victoria is the key to obtaining a good harvest. Before flowering, in order to prevent gray rot disease, it is necessary to spray with an iodine solution. Special requirements are imposed on watering the bushes.

Moderate watering of the plant will allow you to preserve a large amount of vitamin products. Without additional moisture, Victoria will grow if you cover it with snow in winter, carry out high-quality weeding, and do timely and regular loosening of the soil. For today, that’s all about the area. Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy Victoria berries.

Its taste is gone, but its benefits are immeasurable. When consumed, carefully rinse the fruits under running water. You can use garden strawberries for fasting days due to their low calorie content.

Drinking a decoction of berries and leaves will help you lose extra pounds. Any gardener will sooner or later want to plant strawberries on his plot. But how to care for Victoria to get a good harvest?

However, if you consider some basic recommendations for caring for Victoria, it turns out that this task is not so difficult. Of course, it may be difficult at first, but with a little practice, you will become a guru in growing strawberries. And in this article you will receive comprehensive answers to important questions about the agricultural technology of this berry crop.

How to plant Victoria

So, let's consider the first question - how to plant Victoria? The answer to this is important, since it is the planting of strawberries that affects the quality of the future harvest. To understand how to plant strawberries, you must first briefly consider the structure of its bushes.

Take a look at the photo attached just below. As you can see, there is a main, uterine bush. Thanks to him, the propagation of berry crops is possible. Whiskers extend from the main strawberry bush.

Rosettes appear on these shoots - future fruit-bearing bushes. Over time, this rosette will also turn into a uterine bush. Important! For propagation, choose those shoots that have no more than three rosettes.

This will ensure stable growth of each bush, which will also affect the quality of the fruit. As soon as the rosette begins to form, immediately carefully stick its roots into the soil. This way you will provide the plant with constant nutrition of important vital elements.

After some time, when the bushes have formed, they can be planted. It is worth noting that each mother bush can produce up to 15 good rosettes. This means that you don’t have to constantly buy seedlings, and you will always have your own. Memo.

Victoria should be planted in mid-summer (July). Many gardeners advise choosing the evening time of day for this: in this case, the plant will undergo night acclimatization. What bushes can be planted in the ground? Will all sockets fit?

No, you only need to plant those seedlings that have formed a root system, have several leaves and a developed heart. Therefore, if you are buying sockets, then pay attention to all these factors, so as not to be upset later because your plant is not accepted.

In the same case, when you have your own uterine bush, then before you carefully tear off the rosette from the mustache, make sure that it matches this description. Before planting the plant, carefully straighten its roots. The location chosen for planting Victoria is also important.

The berry crop develops well on sandy, slightly acidic and loamy soil. Do not forget to saturate the soil with humus and important nutrients.

You cannot plant the plant in clay soil (it will die) and sandy soil is not recommended (the harvest will be small). Reminder! Do not plant strawberries in beds adjacent to peppers, tomatoes and potatoes.

Also, you should not plant seedlings near trees: their root system will interfere with the development of Victoria. But the proximity to corn and sunflowers will be very useful - they will protect the berry crop from the winds. The plant does not like high humidity, low temperatures and cold winds.

Such weather conditions adversely affect the productivity of the variety: the harvest will be small, and the fruits themselves will become small and diseased. But warm and sunny places will ensure that Victoria will bear fruit abundantly with large and beautiful berries.

How to water Victoria

Strawberries are considered a moisture-loving plant. Therefore, are there any special recommendations on how to water Victoria? It turned out that yes. In the first month after planting, the plant needs to be watered in the holes.

After 30 days, the bushes are irrigated by filling the beds with water. It turns out that it is from this period that Victoria begins to receive moisture abundantly. In this case, many gardeners do not reinvent the wheel, but simply bring the end of the hose to the garden bed and fill it to the top.

Yes, you shouldn't be greedy with water. For such generosity, Victoria will give you her large, pleasant-tasting fruits. But you can find out what to do with this bountiful harvest here.

How often to water Victoria

It is clear that strawberries need abundant watering. But still, how often to water Victoria so as not to harm the plant? In spring, strawberries begin to grow intensively.

If you do not give it the necessary moisture during this period, then you should not be surprised that the berries are small and dry when ripe. Watering continues almost until mid-autumn. In the spring and autumn seasons, strawberry bushes should be irrigated once a week.

This should be done in the morning and preferably with warm water. In the summer season, Victoria needs to be watered at least twice a week, and if the days are hot, then it can be done every other day. At the same time, we must not forget to fertilize the plants with liquid subcortex.

How to care for Victoria in spring

The spring season is the most labor-intensive. It is at this time that strawberries need special care. Therefore, how to care for Victoria in the spring? You have just finished eating frozen strawberries when spring comes to your yard, and with it it’s time for you to go out to your plot.

Where to begin? First, carefully inspect your beds. Remove all frozen plants without regret: there is no place for them to take up space in the beds.

You need to remove dead leaves from living bushes. After carefully examining the bushes and removing the dead ones, proceed to the next step: remove the top layer of soil that you used to mulch the Victoria plant last year. Why is this being done?

Firstly, various pests live in this layer and have taken refuge here from the cold, and secondly, the root system will begin to receive additional heat from the rays of the sun. When you have completed all these procedures, it is advisable to feed the strawberries with nitrogen fertilizer. As soon as your bushes are pleased with new leaves, then immediately “feed” your plants with a solution of mullein with the addition of ammonium sulfate. And when May comes, Victoria should receive a portion of complex mineral fertilizer.

How to grow a large Victoria

So, all the main work has been completed. The gardener is waiting for his fruits. But how to grow a large Victoria, because every gardener wants to get a special trophy? In fact, a lot depends on the gardener himself, or rather on whether he will help the Victoria in its fruiting.

What is it about? Again about fertilizer. And it doesn’t matter what you are doing - trying to grow cherries from seeds or wanting to get a large Victoria fruit - correct and timely fertilization will play a key role in these matters. Make it a rule to fertilize plants not only in the spring (as discussed above), but and before flowering and ripening.

In the first case, it is advisable to feed the strawberries with bird droppings. The solution is prepared as follows: one bucket of litter is filled with three buckets of water. The liquid should stand for three to five days.

The resulting solution is diluted 1 to 20 and the grooves between the beds are watered with it. And before ripening, Victoria should be fertilized twice: with boric acid and zinc sulfate. Thanks to all these actions, you can expect a bountiful and large-fruited harvest. In addition to the information in the article, you can listen to the advice of one of the gardeners on how best to care for strawberries:

We will tell you about the secrets of planting and caring for Victoria strawberries. Once you learn them, you will become an excellent gardener.

What is the difference between Victoria, wild strawberry and strawberry

"Victoria"This is the name of one of the varieties of garden strawberries. The main difference between wild strawberries and strawberries is that strawberries grow in fields, while wild strawberries grow in forests. You will be surprised, but what grows in gardens and vegetable gardens is not strawberries, as we are all accustomed to calling them, but large-fruited garden strawberries. The peculiarity of strawberries is that they have male and female plants, while garden strawberries have only monoecious plants.

No matter how many contradictions there were about the difference between strawberries and wild strawberries, everyone agreed on one thing: both garden and forest strawberries, and a dozen other species of wild strawberries and wild strawberries belong to the genus “strawberry”.

Did you know?Garden strawberries were obtained from American large-fruited species in the 18th century in Europe.

Some features of landing "Victoria"

The first thing you should pay attention to when planting Victoria is the climate of your region. If the winters are not very frosty, then you can plant it in the spring, then over the summer it will grow and get stronger. But if you are in a milder climate zone, you should wait to plant until the fall.

When is the best time to plant

The landing time is chosen based on what exactly we want to get in the end. To get the best tendrils and rosettes, plant in early spring or late summer. At this time, there is enough moisture in the ground, and the air temperature is just right for planting strawberries. Therefore, from March 15 to April 5 and from July 25 to September 5 are the best times for planting.

It is still better to postpone growing Victoria until August. It is in this month that all favorable conditions are created for young strawberry bushes.

How to choose and prepare a place for planting

Strawberries should be planted in soil where legumes, root vegetables, onions or garlic previously grew. The main thing is that the place is well lit. Ideally, choose a place in advance and sow it with green manure. Lupine is the best green manure.

Important! Before planting seedlings, you should get rid of all weeds and mix the soil.

To plant strawberries, you should make holes for them:

  1. They should be wide and deep.
  2. The distance between holes should be from 30 to 50 cm, and between rows - 40 cm.
  3. We mix a bucket of soil with a bucket of manure, a bucket of compost and add two glasses of ash.
  4. We make a mound in the center of the hole.
The area for planting "Victoria" must be completely ready and cultivated, otherwise it simply will not set and will not ripen.

How to plant strawberry bushes correctly

A favorable time for planting strawberries, as for most other crops, is evening or a gloomy day. An hour before you decide to plant seedlings, you should soak the seedlings in water. This way they will settle into the ground faster. Before planting, a good seedling should have no more than four healthy leaves and the length of the roots should not exceed 10 cm.

Let's consider the phased planting of seedlings:

  1. We take a bush and put it on a mound.
  2. The growing point should be level with the surface of the bed; we spread the roots over the mound.
  3. We hold the bush and at the same time fill it with soil and water it with water.
  4. The growing point should ideally be in the soil. It should not be too deep or too high above the soil.

Did you know?Strawberries bring taste to our lives, and its leaves bring benefits. They contain vitamins such as iron, calcium, carotene and vitamin C. It is useful to make tea from the leaves; they could cure gout, atherosclerosis and poisoning.

Some features of caring for "Victoria"

When you have just planted strawberries, Victoria's yield can be reduced to peduncles and tendrils. Don't feel sorry for them and don't admire them. Your duty is to pull them out and let the strawberries calmly take root in a new place.

How to water strawberries

Strawberries do not require watering immediately after planting and before flowering. It needs enough moisture that remains in the soil after winter. Instead of watering, it is important to loosen it, this saturates the soil with air. In total, strawberries need to be watered at least twice during the season. If the summer is dry, watering should be every 10 days. Strawberries especially require a lot of water when they begin to bloom and until the very end of fruiting.

Important! If you want to prevent strawberries from rotting, do not water them by sprinkling. Drip irrigation only.

It is important to water your strawberries before the winter cold. The most optimal month for this is October.

How to properly feed strawberries

When strawberries go through the growing season, they really need feeding. But it is important to remember that Victoria fertilizer should be moderate. If you overfeed it, the berries will not be as tasty and gray rot will appear on them. Find the right balance of nutrition, because if there is not enough fertilizer, the berries also lose their taste, sweetness and leaves become pale or red.

In the first year, strawberries have enough fertilizer with which they were planted. But starting from the second year, superphosphate, saltpeter and potassium are added to the soil, 50 g of each per 10 square meters. After the first fruits, fertilizers are repeated in the same quantities. Strawberries need to be fed after rains or during self-watering. First you water the soil, then you fertilize and then water the soil again.

What are the benefits of mulch for strawberries?

Mulching of strawberries must be carried out without fail:

  1. Mulch helps retain moisture in the soil.
  2. Weeds sit underground and do not climb to the surface.
  3. The soil is enriched with nutrients and acquires a loose consistency.
  4. Under the mulch layer, earthworms appear, which improve the structure of the earth.
The best mulching material is pine needles. It blocks various diseases and does not give access to pests. Instead of pine needles, you can use straw, leaves, and dried grass.

Methods of propagation of "Victoria"

  1. Propagation by seeds. This is perhaps one of the most difficult processes in strawberry growth. In order for the seeds to germinate and withstand all conditions, they need special care. In order to get at least some result, you must sow the seeds and keep them in the most favorable conditions for 30 days.
  2. Mustache breeding. You will need one plastic glass, warm water with added fertilizer, a warm and bright room. Carefully cut the mustache from the strawberry and place it in a plastic glass with water and fertilizer. Leave for several days until the rosette and roots form. Next, we transplant it into another glass and create a “swamp” atmosphere there: we fill the roots so much that they can continue to germinate. After about 15 days, the top layer of soil should dry out, cover it with mulch, and the mustache is ready for planting in the ground. In just 45 days you will see the result.
  3. Relocating the socket. The easiest and most convenient method of reproduction. Cut off the rosette and immediately plant it in a new place, which you water and fertilize beforehand.
  4. Pollination of strawberries in a greenhouse and in open ground. Strawberries are considered a dioecious berry, so insects are needed for pollination. There are no problems with this in open ground, but in a greenhouse you can use artificial insemination. We take a brush with fine bristles and poke it into all the flowers. After a while there will be so much pollen on the tassel that you will be able to fertilize all the flowers. Repeat this process twice a week with new blooms opening.
