What can be fed with onion peel infusion. An infusion based on onion peels is the number one remedy for pests! Feeding indoor plants

Onions are one of the most indispensable vegetable crops in cooking, but they also make an invaluable contribution in the garden. Its husk is an excellent fertilizer for vegetables, fruits, shrubs and indoor flowers. Decoctions are prepared from it for watering and spraying, used as mulch, and also added to the soil to enrich the composition. Onion peels can become a valuable fertilizer, as they contain a whole complex of vitamins and minerals. It can bring invaluable benefits to plants if used correctly.

Compound

The composition of onion peelings is surprisingly diverse and nutritious. They contain a huge amount of essential components, rich in vitamins A, C, E, PP and group B. They contain quite a lot of organic acids, phytoncides, as well as mineral salts of potassium, calcium and iron. In small doses, the husk contains magnesium, copper, phosphorus, manganese and quercetin. All these vitamins, macro- and microelements are necessary for plants to fully grow and develop.

Carotene

Provitamin A (carotene) is useful for both adult plants and seedlings. It is marketed as an antioxidant and is directly linked to the immune system. Significantly accelerates the regeneration of plant cells, provides protection against fungi, bacteria and rot. Its beneficial properties will help:

  • in caring for seedlings;
  • in increasing plant endurance;
  • in disease prevention;
  • in preserving leaf mass during a lack of oxygen.

Phytoncides

Antimicrobial phytoncides are a great help in caring for garden crops. They are contained in the onion skin and fight protozoan microorganisms, inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi.

Vitamins

Onion peel contains, among other things, an abundance of B vitamins. Together with phosphoric acid, they form carboxylase, a valuable enzyme that releases nutrients. Young seedlings are especially demanding of the presence of B vitamins, because they accelerate growth, protect the root system from rot, and the leaves and trunk form faster.

Vitamins of the PP group are no less useful for plants. They are involved in the processing of oxygen, nitrogen and sulfur, help grow rhizomes and improve the development of seedlings.

Onion peels as fertilizer

Onion peelings have a composition rich in microelements and vitamins, which allows them to act as an excellent fertilizer for plants. They are capable of:

  • stimulate the immune system;
  • take part in regeneration;
  • contribute to the fight against inflammatory processes.

Any vegetable crops can be fed with onion peels. Such nutrition will help restore and greatly strengthen the plant’s rhizome, and will also help stimulate growth in general. , peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes. Their productivity increases many times over.

Plants, shrubs and trees are sprayed with a decoction of the husk. This helps get rid of pests such as:

  • cabbage whites;
  • spider mite;
  • slugs;
  • Colorado potato beetles;
  • cruciferous flea beetle;
  • nutcrackers.

Use in the garden

Onion peels can be used for various purposes:

  1. Mulching. The dried husks are used during... It should be intact, without any lesions or signs of rotting. In spring it is added to the soil during loosening. Plants should be planted after a couple of days.
  2. Infusion against pests. For 10 liters of boiling water, take one glass of onion peelings. The broth is infused for 12 hours, cooled and filtered. Areas of plants and shrubs prone to pests are treated (every four days). The components contained in the composition will help improve the quality of the soil.
  3. Bactericidal agent. Use half a glass of husk per 5 liters of boiling water. The cooled solution is used to water plants and seedlings in order to disinfect the soil and get rid of harmful insects.

Preparing a decoction of onion peels for future use and storing it is prohibited.

Tomatoes

They respond well to . Substances included in onions protect bushes from gray and black rot, strengthen the stems, increase their tone and make them less brittle.

Tomatoes are watered in the evening, several times a season:

  1. The first time is when planting seedlings in the ground. Preparing the decoction is a simple process: take 2 cups of husks to 2 cups of boiling water, leave for two days, filter and dilute with triple the volume of water. Young bushes require 0.5 liters of composition, plants older than a month need 1.5 liters.
  2. The second feeding is carried out during the flowering period. The bushes are watered abundantly at the base of the trunk.
    The result is visible within a week. The leaf mass increases, becomes strong and juicy.

cucumbers

The solution for watering cucumbers is prepared in the same way as for tomatoes, only you need to take less water for dilution.

Can be used during the season. Only the leaves are sprayed; it is not advisable to touch the trunk.

Among other things, cucumber peels can be used as mulch. Before planting, the soil is loosened along with it and then spraying will no longer be needed.

If cucumbers growing in a greenhouse are susceptible to various pests, you can place a jar of onion broth inside the building. The pungent smell will repel insects.

Other vegetables

Onion peel is suitable as a fertilizer for any vegetable crops. It can be used to fertilize pumpkin, zucchini, cabbage, potatoes, and radishes. Thanks to onion feeding, it becomes possible to fight pests, improve the quality of seedlings and get a good harvest in the future.

For seedlings

The solution from the cleaning can be used both for watering and for preparing the soil. The soil is watered with a decoction before planting seedlings. It is allowed to add onion peels to the soil.

To increase resistance to various diseases and pests, it can be sprayed with a solution: first before planting, then once a week.

For indoor plants

Onion decoction can also help indoor flowers. Water yellowing and drying plants with it. Most often, such feeding helps restore life to fading greenery. For maximum effect, fertilizer is applied once every 2-3 weeks. The decoction will provide healthy plants with a complex of substances necessary for growth and development.

Contraindications

Not all plants and flowers can be watered with onion broth. It is better not to use it on succulents and cacti. There is a risk of destroying them.

Onion peels are widely used in gardens and vegetable gardens. It can increase the quantity and quality of the harvest, enrich it with vitamins, microelements, and, unlike chemical fertilizers, will not harm the plantings. If you know how to properly feed plants with husks, you can soon get an abundance of large, ripe and juicy fruits.

In the old days, it was not customary to throw away onion peels - an excellent fertilizer was prepared from it. Environmentally friendly raw materials simply cannot harm either plants or soil. On the contrary, the husk contains a lot of useful substances, and therefore accelerates the growth of garden crops and has a positive effect on yields.

Beneficial features

Onion peel has a rich composition. Therefore, fertilizer based on it has the following effect:

  • anti-inflammatory
  • restorative
  • immunostimulating

Fertilizing based on husks perfectly regenerates and strengthens the rhizomes of garden crops, promotes their intensive growth and development.

Peppers, tomatoes, potatoes and cucumbers are very responsive to onion fertilizer. They begin to develop more rapidly, bloom together and bear fruit abundantly.

In addition to garden crops, home flowers are also fed with husks. For them, this is both food and protection from small midges.

Spraying with onion broth allows you to get rid of many harmful insects: mites, green aphids, mole crickets, weevils, caterpillars, cabbage butterflies, and codling moths.

In addition, fertilizing is useful for both garden crops and the soil itself. Organic matter from it improves the structure of the soil, making it looser and more breathable.

Important! Onion peels will only be beneficial if products based on them are used fresh.

Husk composition

Onion peelings contain a lot of useful components: vitamins B and E, PP and P, ascorbic acid, phytoncides, carotene, silicic acid, as well as iron, calcium and potassium salts.

Carotene is a powerful immunostimulant that carries the strongest life-giving force. It blocks free radicals, kills all harmful microorganisms, eliminates fungal accumulations, and defeats rot. Carotene is an excellent antioxidant that increases the similarity of seeds, overall endurance, increases the degree of resistance to disease, and allows you to withstand a lack of oxygen.

Onion scales contain phytoncides that kill fungus, microbes and pathogenic bacteria.

There are a lot of vitamins in this fertilizer. For example, the B-group reacts with phosphorus, resulting in the formation of an enzyme useful for plants - carboxylase. It is especially useful for seedlings - it accelerates their growth, strengthens the root system, and protects them from rotting.

Vitamins of the PP group ensure the respiration process, without which photosynthesis and the absorption of sulfur and nitrogen are impossible. They allow plants to fully develop even on alumina.

How to cook

Onion skins are usually boiled, infused, and also used as mulch. The main thing is to maintain the correct dosage.

Decoctions

Flower growers especially appreciate this feeding. Onion decoction allows you to restore indoor plants and rid them of diseases. Watering twice a week is sufficient.

Recipe 1: Take a glass of husk, fill it with water (up to 2 liters), boil for several minutes, and then infuse. When the broth has cooled, start feeding. It is not necessary to filter it: the husk is an excellent organic matter that will only benefit the soil.

Attention! The decoction cannot be stored. It must be used immediately, otherwise it will lose all its beneficial qualities.

Recipe 2: It is more suitable for lazy people. In order not to burden yourself with preparing a decoction, the crushed husks are poured into the soil, and then the crops are watered with warm water.

Recipe 3: Concentrated for vegetable crops. Before use, it is diluted in water. A glass of raw materials is filled with 2 liters of water, boiled, then covered and wrapped. The composition should brew well and acquire a dark brown tint. This amount of feeding is designed for a bucket of water. It is recommended to use the decoction twice a month. Not only in the form of watering, but also in the form of spraying tomatoes, potatoes, cucumbers, and carrots.

Infusions

They differ from decoctions in that they do not require boiling or boiling. Even cold water is suitable for preparing them.

Recipe 1: Pour a glass of onion skins into a bucket of cold water, leave for up to 4 days, strain. This composition is suitable for spraying fruit trees and berry bushes.

Recipe 2: A bucket is filled to the middle with husks, then filled to the brim with hot water, sealed, and left for 2 days. The finished composition is filtered and diluted in water (1:2) before use. It copes well with hordes of green aphids.

Recipe 3: A little husk (10 g), chopped onions (20 g), pour 1000 ml of boiling water, cover with a lid, leave for 9 hours. This infusion is used for spraying garden and house plants.

Note. The composition will stick to plants better if you add a little grated soap to it.

Excellent results are achieved by using dry onion skins. They are scattered on the site before digging, sprinkled on the beds to repel pests.

Mulch

It is better to start collecting husks from late autumn - early spring. Then there is a chance to have time to accumulate a sufficient amount of raw materials for the gardening season. The main thing is to dry it thoroughly to avoid rotting.

In the spring, the husks are added before digging or immediately before planting various crops. After a few days, you can start sowing.

Some gardeners cover entire beds with husks to prevent diseases and protect against pests. Many insects do not like the onion smell. This allows you to grow healthy fruits while protecting them from damage.

Fertilizer and feeding

Onion skins are useful not only for garden crops, but also for household crops. However, do not forget about compliance with dosages.

For indoor plants

Conditions inside the house can hardly be called ideal for growing flowers. There is dry air, insufficient lighting, and very few nutrients. All this can lead to the death of plants. A decoction of onion skins will come to the rescue.

To prepare it, the skins of 2 onions are enough. The raw materials are poured with a liter of boiling water and infused for 3-4 days. First, flowers with clear signs of wilting are fertilized with it. They usually recover completely within a few weeks and continue to grow normally.

For prevention, the infusion is used once every 3-4 weeks. After all, even healthy plants will like it.

Husk fertilizer should not be used for cacti and ficus, succulents and fat plants. They may stop growing completely or begin to dry out.

For the garden

The effectiveness of onion fertilizers has been confirmed by many gardeners. Even agronomists report good results after using them.

  • For cucumbers

This crop is very susceptible to rot. To avoid its appearance, cucumbers are sprayed with onion solution (400 g of peel per 2 liters of boiling water, leave for 2 days). Before use, it should be diluted twice with water.

It is better to spray the greens, not the stems. Frequency – once every 2-3 weeks.

In addition to the solution, onion mulch fights cucumber diseases very effectively.

Note. If you decide to use husks for mulching, then you no longer need to spray the crop.

  • For tomatoes

Peel-based feeding protects tomatoes from two types of rot. In addition, it makes the stems of the crop more powerful and stronger. Fertilize tomatoes about 1-2 times a month. And only in the evenings. The first time is immediately after planting the seedlings. The infusion is prepared the same as for cucumbers. Only they breed it not in double, but in triple size.

They do not spray it, but rather water it over the tomatoes. For one bush – half a liter of nutrient solution. Within a few days, results will be visible: the plant will begin to grow actively, the foliage will become more fleshy.

As you grow older, the dosage will increase. Adult bushes require up to 2 liters of the composition.

The second feeding is done after the start of flowering.

To protect tomatoes from pests, several sprayings are carried out per season.

  • For zucchini, potatoes, pumpkin, radishes

These crops will certainly appreciate the nutritious and vitamin-rich onion infusion. The recipe for its preparation is similar to that used for cucumbers. It will also help radishes resist bacteriosis.

  • For seedlings

Onion peels are used to enrich the soil with nutrients. This is especially true for young plants that require a lot of strength to grow and develop. Onion skins are first buried in the beds, and then the seedlings are placed in the ground. In addition to dry material, onion infusion is used. They fertilize future planting sites.

In addition, it is used by spraying with onion broth. This way you can protect garden crops from harmful insects.

Pests and diseases

A decoction based on onion peels is used to protect plants from most pests, such as aphids, moths, caterpillars, spider mites, weevils, cabbage weeds, etc.

Recipe: 400 g of husk is poured with a glass of boiling water and left for up to 5 days. Use it for 3 days in a row, not forgetting to dilute it 1:2 and add laundry soap for stickiness.

The following recipe is used against the so-called blackleg: 2 handfuls of husks are poured with 1000 ml of water, left for 24 hours, filtered.

The same infusion perfectly eliminates bacteriosis in cabbage and radishes. As soon as the foliage begins to turn yellow, it’s time to treat.

In addition, onion infusion saves tomatoes from bacterial cancer, which destroys all fruits if it is not stopped in time.

Colorado beetles, copperheads, apple moths and some rodents also cannot stand the smell of onions. Many gardeners do not wait for this or that pest to appear, but spray garden crops for prevention purposes. Since the beginning of spring.

Conclusion

Onion fertilizer not only nourishes plants with the most essential vitamins and microelements, but also reliably protects them from pests. In addition, this is a waste material that does not require any financial investment.

Everyone knows how indispensable onions are in the kitchen. This versatile vegetable is required to add an unsurpassed smell and taste to most dishes, which is why housewives around the world use it almost daily. After cutting onions, the useless husks are thrown into the trash, although they are a real treasure trove of useful things. The designated element is used to treat hair, as an excellent coloring agent for Easter eggs, a valuable elixir in the fight against diseases and an effective organic fertilizer.

Basic information

The main value of onion peel is its unique, rich composition: vitamins, phytoncides, active substances, etc. Having examined the basis of the described element in more detail, it will be possible not only to see its obvious advantages, but also to understand the value of using onion peels to fertilize garden crops.

Important! At lack of oxygen It is carotene that helps seedlings retain a sufficient amount of green mass.

Fertilizing with onion peels: pros and cons

Gardeners often use the husk of the “teariest” vegetable to feed and protect their seedlings. The reason is the rich composition and a whole list of beneficial properties of onion scales: protection, anti-inflammatory effect, regeneration. A fertilizer prepared from the described substance can accelerate the growth of any plant, as well as strengthen or restore its root system.

Most often, this dressing is used to process cucumbers, tomatoes, potatoes and peppers. The impact of onion peels on the listed crops increases their productivity.

Important! The valuable composition is used to treat not only garden plants, but also indoor plants.

A decoction of onion peels can protect the area from a number of annoying pests: mole crickets, caterpillars, mites, Colorado potato beetles, aphids, cabbageweeds and even apple stalks. Treating the soil with a useful composition improves its structure and leads to the death of pathogenic microorganisms. The main thing is that the fertilizer used is prepared in advance, infused well, and remains fresh.

Use for crop processing

Farmers around the world have recognized onion peels as an effective and affordable fertilizer. The recipes for preparing a nutrient mixture are known to everyone and are unchanged, but to fertilize different crops you will have to use different amounts of the main component.

Tomatoes

Onion waste protects tomato bushes from black and gray rot, increases the tone and strengthens the stem of the plant. Feeding is carried out several times a season, preferably in the evening. If the crop grows in a greenhouse, processing time is not important.

  1. For the first time, tomato seedlings should be fed 2-3 days after planting. To do this, pour 2 cups of husks into 2 cups of boiling water, infuse in a plastic container for 2 days, then strain and dilute with three times the volume of water. Fertilizer is applied to the hole at the base of the plant trunk. Material consumption – 500 ml for processing one bush. If the plant is already several months old, you will have to water it with 1-1.5 liters of nutrient mixture. The result will appear literally in 2 days: the tomato leaves will become larger, and the yellow areas will completely disappear.
  2. The second spring-summer feeding is watering the bushes during budding and flowering. The hole under the plant is being processed.

As a preventive measure and to protect tomatoes from insects, you can use the prepared solution for spraying tomato leaves. The frequency of the event is once every 30 days, in the evening.

cucumbers

At the entire stage of its development, this melon crop can be affected by rot and other serious diseases. To cope with the problem and thereby increase the yield of cucumbers, you should prepare an infusion of onion peels according to the principle described above, only dilute the resulting composition in double the volume of cold water. The resulting solution should be sprayed on cucumber beds, treating the leaves, not the stems. Frequency – 2 times per season.

Another option for applying fertilizers is mulching the soil with onion peels. The crushed scales should be sprinkled on the ground, then loosened and the cucumbers planted. In the future, additional spraying of the crop will no longer be necessary. Otherwise, the fruits of the crop may become bitter due to an excess of phytoncides.

Other plants

It is useful to feed onion fertilizer not only to tomatoes and cucumbers, but also to other representatives of the garden beds: pumpkin, potatoes, zucchini, radishes, carrots. The mixture preparation scheme is similar: 2 tbsp. husks, 2 tbsp. boiling water, stir, leave for 2 days. Afterwards all that remains is to strain the nutrient mixture and dilute it in cold water (1:2).

Important! To fertilize potatoes, it is enough to bring and add a little husk when planting root crops directly into the hole.

Treatment of indoor plants

Onion decoction is an excellent remedy for caring for homemade flowers in pots. To prepare the mixture you will need a handful of onion trimmings and a liter of boiling water. Let the resulting mixture sit on the windowsill for 2-3 days, filter it, and then use it to water the plants. Particular attention should be paid to those flowers whose leaves have begun to turn yellow, dry out or rot. To fill them with shine and bring them back to life, it is enough to fertilize them once every 2-3 weeks using a special watering can.

For healthy plants, onion nutrition is also very important, because such a composition will saturate them with useful microelements that are absent in the apartment environment of their daily habitat.

Fact! Fertilizer should not be used to feed all indoor flowers. For example, ficus, cacti and succulents may stop growing from such exposure.

Variations in the use of husks

Depending on the designated purposes and the desired result, onion scales can be used in several different variations.

  1. Spraying against pests. 2 tbsp. Soak the husks in 1 tbsp. boiling water, leave for 3 days, then dilute with 2 tbsp. cold water. To make the composition better cling to the leaves, add a little laundry soap. We spray the affected crops every few days, then repeat the procedure a week later. In this way, it is possible to rid garden plants of aphids, beetles, thrips, spiders, spider mites and most fungi.
  2. Bactericidal composition. Bring a bucket of water to a boil, combine with a glass of husks. Let it sit for 5-6 hours, filter, and use it in a cooled but still fresh form for watering plants, trying to work on the inside of the leaves to destroy various insects. Another option is to wash or soak the potatoes in the prepared solution before planting. This protects the crop from seasonal pests and increases the growth rate of its bushes.
  3. Effective mulch. Throughout the winter, onion scales should be collected to accumulate the required amount of this environmental fertilizer. It is important that the material does not have damaged, rotten areas. The husks need to be dried well in the oven or in the microwave. With the onset of spring, we sprinkle the soil for planting with the stored material, and then dig it up. Only a few days after this, it will be possible to begin planting the prepared crops. By the way, this method helps to cope with known pests, because the strong smell of onions will scare them away from their favorite delicacy throughout the entire season.
  4. Infusion against aphids. A real scourge for most gardeners is the ubiquitous aphid. The same onion peel will help you cope with one of the most tenacious pests. A glass of the ingredient should be poured into a bucket of boiling water, left for 12-14 hours, then strained, and used to spray the affected plants. The exposure time is once every 4 days until the problem disappears. The resulting composition can be used to treat garden crops for preventive purposes.
  5. In order to preserve the harvest. It turns out that onion peels help not only increase the yield, but also preserve it in its original form for as long as possible. Apples or pears must be mixed with dried peels and stored until spring, while radishes, carrots or zucchini will have to be processed in an infusion of onion peels.

Advice! The husks remaining after straining the finished broth do not need to be thrown away. It will be useful for filling a compost pit. Special acids obtained during the processing of organic materials will in the future help cope with pests and improve the appearance of plants if they are periodically fed with a rich compost composition.

Conclusion

Onion peel fertilizer is an effective, free and natural remedy that helps summer residents not only increase the yield of their crops, but also forget about various pests for a long time. Since this supplement is completely natural, it is completely harmless and safe for humans. Onion peels contain no nitrates, and other components are easily absorbed by all plant organisms. Isn’t it a very effective method of recycling “kitchen” waste?

For treatment of various diseases in plants Onion peels have been used since ancient times. And now this will not surprise anyone - in various publications you can find many references to recipes for treating plants using onion peels. And it doesn’t matter at all where they grow, on the windowsill or in the garden.

Onion peel infusion for indoor plants

If you notice that indoor flowers have begun to look unimportant, don’t worry. Just do it onion peel infusion and water them. Before your eyes, the flowers will begin to “come to their senses.”

The elixir of a good flower mood is very simple to make. Place a handful of husks in an enamel container for one and a half liters of hot water. Place it on the fire and boil for no more than 5–7 minutes. After removing from heat, leave the broth to steep for two hours. At the end, it remains to strain the infusion and cool.

It is not without reason that experienced flower growers advise using an infusion of onion peels at least once a month to spray plants and the surface layer of soil. This is done both for antiseptic prophylaxis and for the purpose of fertilizing the soil with microelements, of which there is a huge amount in such an infusion. But you need to know and remember that onion peel infusion cannot be stored. Therefore, you should always use it for processing and watering soil and plants only when it is freshly prepared.

Watering with a decoction (infusion) of onion peels

Onion peel, as noted above, has disinfecting properties and contains a lot of microelements useful for plants. Adding it to the soil in the spring before planting seedlings increases not only plant resistance to various diseases, but also productivity! To summarize, then onion peel decoction is one of the most effective means for gardeners and gardeners in the fight for the health and fertility of plants.

For example, if suddenly the leaves of your cucumbers turn yellow, this will help onion peel infusion, prepared according to the following very simple recipe, which differs from the one used for indoor flowers only in the volume of the infused solution.

A few “good” handfuls of onion peels are poured into heated water in an enamel bucket, which we put on the fire and bring to a boil. Then leave the broth to steam under the lid until it cools. The resulting concentrate can only be filtered and as a result we get an effective medicinal product not only for healing cucumbers, but also for use in carrot and tomato beds to increase productivity.

Also, an infusion of onion peels is a very effective means of combating all kinds of pests and diseases, causing a lot of problems for gardeners and gardeners. Take, for example, such common plant enemies as aphids, spider mites and thrips. You can, of course, fight them with the help of various “chemicals,” but it will undoubtedly be better if you use a reliable and environmentally friendly remedy - an infusion of onion peels. The simplicity of its preparation and the low cost of raw materials - gardeners always have onion peels - make this medicine truly popular and competitive with store-bought poisons.

Take a bucket of onion peels and fill it with hot water. You need two buckets of water. We infuse this mixture for five days, strain it and add a little laundry soap to the finished infusion - approximately two grams per liter of infusion. Before use, this killer concentrate for pests must be diluted in a ratio of one to two, after which it can already be sprayed on plants. Where you need to use tens of liters of expensive “chemicals”, you can easily cope with three liters of our onion product.

Onion peel against aphids. But what to do when the aphid simply “seizes”? You can quickly deal with it by preparing “onion grief” for it. Add about two hundred grams of onion peels to ten liters of hot water and leave this mixture for 15 hours. Then we will treat the plants occupied by aphids with the strained - but not diluted - infusion.

Onion peel infusion It will also help gardeners in the fight against various fungal diseases on their acres. Let's take the “black leg”. This disease is caused by an invisible fungus and creates a huge problem for summer residents. A common antifungal recipe involves the use of potassium permanganate at the rate of 3 g per 1 liter of water. This solution is prescribed to treat soil contaminated with fungus. But in conditions where potassium permanganate has become scarce, there is nothing better to look for than onion poison for these fungi.

It is also very simple to prepare. Pour one liter of boiling water into a good handful of onion peels and leave this mixture for no more than a day. Then we filter and spray the affected beds with the resulting environmentally friendly antifungal drug. This should be done up to three times a day for several weeks, taking a break every 6 days. The infusion not only restores microflora and kills harmful fungi, but also nourishes the soil with beneficial microelements.

Shrubs, fruit trees and the soil underneath can be treated in the same way.

And if you leave a bucket of onion infusion in greenhouses and greenhouses - while occasionally spraying the beds with plants using an ordinary broom - you can completely get rid of all fleas, aphids and midges.

Despite the abundance of chemical fertilizers in the retail chain, the attention of gardeners is increasingly focused on the search for natural remedies. Onion peels are an old folk way to fertilize the soil and resist many pests of gardens and vegetable gardens. It is enough not to throw away the outer shell of onions, which are used for food in every family, but to use the saved fertilizer in your personal plot. “Grateful” vegetables and fruits will respond with increased yield.

The onion skin (husk) is rich in vitamins and mineral salts, which provide support to growing vegetables and fruits, especially if they are grown without the necessary crop rotation. Natural fertilizer is used for planting tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, and cucumbers. This is especially important during the period of planting seedlings, before flowering, during the formation of fruits.

Strawberries and strawberries are also responsive to fertilizing. The condition of garden seedlings and flower plants growing outdoors and at home improves.

The substance of onions has protective qualities against common plant diseases: blackleg, late blight, leaf wilting. Plants treated with a medicinal decoction restore the healthy structure of leaves and stems.

Volatile compounds, which give a specific odor to onions and their peels, repel garden pests. In this case, the insects are not destroyed, but deceived by the unusual amber, they do not lay eggs on the plants, from which voracious larvae subsequently emerge. Protective treatment against pests is carried out every week, in sunny, calm times. To improve the effect, a soap solution is added to the decoction or infusion, which serves as an adhesive.

If you put onion peels into a hole when planting a plant, the root system of a vegetable or garden crop is enriched with a complex of vitamins C, E, PP, B. At the same time, the plant grows stronger and more resilient against unfavorable weather anomalies.

How to feed plants

There are several ways to saturate vegetation with the necessary nutrients:

  • watering the root with prepared decoction/infusion/ of onion peels;
  • spraying the entire plant with an aqueous solution of onions;
  • , placing onion peelings in the hole while planting the plant;
  • Sprinkling crushed raw materials around the planted crop. Moreover, with each watering the plant is saturated with beneficial substances contained in onion peels.

Preparation of working solution

  • a liter jar of whole onion peels is filled with 10 liters of warm water - 36-40°C;
  • bring the liquid to a boil under a closed lid;
  • simmer the solution preferably for 10-15 minutes, stirring;
  • the concentrated fertilizer is infused for 4-5 hours in a container covered with a warm cloth;
  • The liquid that has cooled to room temperature must be filtered;
  • use the composition for spraying or watering, after diluting it with clean water in a ratio of 1:5.

Fertilizer is used only in fresh form, otherwise the liquid loses its quality and begins to smell unpleasant.

Feeding seedlings with onion peels

Onion peel contains many vitamins that are vital for the growth and development of young plants:

  • carotene (vitamin A) helps the root system develop, resulting in seedlings with thick stems, strong and hardy;
  • nicotinic acid (PP) supports a young plant in conditions of poor lighting in a greenhouse or room;
  • phytoncides, which the root crop and its shell are rich in, disinfect the soil, destroying fungal microorganisms;
  • B vitamins strengthen plants, stimulating them to resist lowering air temperatures.

To grow strong and hardened seedlings, it is enough to spray the plants with an infusion of onion peels twice a week and water the young shoots at the roots.

Preparation of the infusion:

  • pour onion peel (glass) with 2 liters of boiling water;
  • heat the liquid in a water bath for 5-7 minutes;
  • let it sit, wrapping the container in a warm cloth until it cools completely;
  • Strain the liquid thoroughly and spray the plants with it;
  • water the seedlings with the remainder;
  • It is useful to spread the used husks among the shoots - harmful insects will leave the nursery.

Onion peel effectively counteracts pathogens of insidious diseases of vegetable and garden crops.

Downy mildew on cucumbers and zucchini can practically destroy the crop in a matter of days. The disease appears during any period of vegetable growth, but is intensely activated during fruiting. At the same time, bacteria remain viable in soil for up to 7 years. Regular treatment of plantings (from the appearance of sprouts to the end of fruiting) with an interval of 5-7 days does not leave the infection a chance to develop.

Preparation of working solution:

  • chop the onion peelings and fill half the container with the mass (depending on need);
  • fill the dishes to the brim with hot water;
  • leave the composition for 1.5 days, closing it tightly with a lid;
  • Before use, it is recommended to strain the product and dilute it twice with water;
  • add a couple of tablespoons of liquid soap to the composition;
  • Carry out the treatment in the evening in calm weather.

A strong infusion can prevent diseases of cruciferous crops (radish, all types of cabbage) from bacteriosis. The medicine is prepared in the same way, but there is no need to dilute it with additional water. It is recommended to moisten the plants generously so as not to leave a single leaf or section of the stem dry. Additionally, it is recommended to water the plants at the roots with a solution. To combine treatment and feeding, you can add wood ash (10-15 g per liter).

Onion solution has a similar effect on the causative agent of cancer on tomatoes and potatoes. It is advisable to treat plants once a week.

Feeding indoor plants

You can consider onion peels as a natural biostimulant. Enriched with micro and macroelements (calcium, phosphorus, iron, potassium, zinc), vitamins (A, PP, C, B) and fungicides, the composition of the substance affects the root and green part of the plant. At the same time, growth is accelerated, roots are strengthened, and characteristic diseases are eliminated.

The sharp characteristic smell repels pests that attack indoor flowers. Regular watering with a solution or infusion of onion peels forces insects to leave flower pots. Colonies of spider mites, thrips, and aphids are not harmful to your favorite flowers when watered 1-2 times a week with a medicinal infusion.

You can prepare the solution in two ways, differing in the time spent:

  1. Pour a glass of onion peelings with a liter of boiling water. Keep the liquid in a water bath for 10-15 minutes after the water boils in the saucepan. Let it sit, wrapping the bowl in a thick cloth until it cools completely. Use the resulting medicine, diluted with water in a 1:1 ratio, for external spraying of plants and watering at the root.
  2. Soak a glass of onion raw material in 2 liters of cold water for 3 days, tightly closing the container with a lid.

Before use, the liquid should be filtered if a sprayer is used. Onion scraps can be placed around the plant to act as mulch while feeding the flowers with each watering.

Indoor flowers with thickened leaves and stems do not tolerate feeding with onions well: ficus, crassula (money tree), succulents.

Onion peels are also used for vegetable and garden crops.

A good effect is obtained by washing the root crops stored for long-term storage with an infusion of onion peels. As a result, mold does not form, the tubers are not affected by rot, insects, rodents:

  • Rinse or spray vegetable root vegetables (carrots, beets, potatoes) with the prepared decoction or infusion;
  • dry vegetables in the shade;
  • Carry out the bookmark in storage places in the usual way.

Everyone can collect onion peels throughout the year. The use of natural components in a summer cottage or in indoor floriculture significantly improves the appearance of plants and reduces the content of harmful chemicals (nitrates, nitrites) in the crop.
